It is important to make sure that your roof is winterized before winter is upon you. Planning ahead can prevent you from getting caught unaware if your roof becomes a problem.

Winter may either be a time of rainfall or your roof will be subject to snow, ice, and extreme cold. This can take a toll on your roof and the price on that toll can add up quickly.

How to Help Your Roof be Winterized

Some things you can do to help winterize your roof include keeping the gutters cleaned out and in good repair. Clogged gutters combined with rain that becomes ice, can cause a great deal of damage to your roof.

More importantly though because it can prevent further damage from occurring. One of the damage that it can do is water damage. But that is honestly the least of your worries. Mold, bacteria, and mildew can build up in the unseen areas where water is collecting. This can be inside your walls or in the ceiling of your home. This can lead to all kinds of health problems for your family if at home and your customers and staff if your business roof has sprung a leak.

Waterproofing Your Roof

Also consider waterproofing your roof to prepare for the season when you will receive a great deal or rain, ice, and snow. Waterproofing does more than help protect your roof from water but it’s an excellent start when preparing your roof for winter. Sitting water, melting ice and snow, and constant exposure to cold can lead to a wide range of problems for your roof. Waterproofing is your first line of defense against many of those problems.

The time to ask if your roof is ready for winter is long before winter hits.
